New Carlisle Historical Society President Endorses the Levy Renewal Campaign
April 24, 2022We have crossed the finish line with our 2017 levy-funded projects! The levy helps us take care of the building, from paying for run-of-the-mill maintenance expenses to large capital projects and repairs. Without these funds, we wouldn’t be able to keep our facility operating for the community.
Some of the projects we have been able to complete include replacing gutters, replacing the HVAC system, installing LED lighting in the galleries and offices, repairing (and, in some cases, replacing) windows, upgrading the fire suppression system, and installing new pavers on Fountain Ave as well as Center St.
We are excited to say we have finished two key projects that have been in the works: replacing the electronic, mechanical, and hydraulic components of our elevators, and installing solar panels on Exposition Hall—informally known as “Expo Hall”—which is our annex building.
Elevator Update
PEAK Elevator has completed work on all three elevators! (Yes, that’s right, no more stairs or crossing half the building to get to our Library & Archives.) As parts for these 50-year-old elevators become increasingly difficult to source, this work will extend the lifespan of these cabs. This also gives us the opportunity to modernize, allowing us to install emergency phones as well as link our elevators to our security system.

Solar Panels
Garber Electric has completed installation of solar panels on the roof of Expo Hall. Solar panels are part and parcel of our efforts to run a more energy-efficient building and reduce operational costs. They will also play a pivotal role inside.
The displays in the annex are currently divided into industries (Agriculture, Funerary, Manufacturing, etc.), but they are united in one theme: power. Garber Electric will be installing a solar panel display along the north wall that will allow our galleries to be past and future-focused, telling a continuing story of how Clark County harnesses human, animal, and natural power.

Thank you for Your Support
Without the support of the community, The Heritage Center wouldn’t be able to tackle these projects for the upkeep of our facility and collections. We thank you again for supporting our levy that allows us to keep up with these necessary projects to repair and enhance The Heritage Centy so we can continue to be a staple in the community. If you have any questions for our team, please contact us or browse the resources on our website.
